We are so happy to have recently helped Matilda claimed her Jobseeker allowance.

Matilda has recently quit her work as she was finding it too physically demanding. At this stage, Matilda is only 65 and is not eligible for an age pension for another 12 months.

She came to seek advice to see if there was anything that we could do to help her, as you’d already withdrawn her super and was using it to help fund her living costs and she was finding that it was dwindling quickly.

After a brief discussion with Matilda, and seeing what she wanted to do over the next 12 months and whether she was willing to do some volunteering. We established that Matilda would be eligible for jobseeker payments.

This was massive relief, Matilda, as it ensured that she could continue to pay bills and support her family through this tough time.

In Matilda’s case, she was eligible for jobseeker as she was over age 60 and happy to satisfy her mutual obligations by volunteering. This requires that she volunteers for at least 30 hours per fortnight.

There are several different areas in which she can volunteer, and she is currently looking for something that matches her interests.

We discussed with Matilda the process of actually claiming jobseeker allowance and outlined the information that she would need to have an provide to us that we could claim.

She provided all this information to as upfront and we were able to have the claim processed and approved within 12 hours. While this is not a normal turnaround time, it shows that if you give the right information Centrelink can turn things around quickly.

Financially jobseeker will provide $565 per fortnight, Matilda will also receive the Coronavirus supplement which is an additional $550 per fortnight until September 25 then it will reduced to $250 per fortnight.

She will also be entitled to some rent assistance. She will also qualify for a low-income health care card which will reduce her medication bills significantly as she will only have to pay five dollars $5.60 for a script.

Over the next 12 months Matilda is likely to receive just over $20,000 in benefits that she wouldn’t have if she hadn’t enquired with us.
